Navigating and Supporting Change

Nicole Hylton, MS

Most of us have heard the quote from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, “change is the only constant in life”. If this is true, why is change so hard? Early childhood programs striving towards quality face changes both in individual practice and at the program level. Making and sustaining these changes can prove challenging and may lead to stagnation and lack of progress. For those supporting programs in their quality improvement journey, this can feel frustrating. This 2-hour in-person session explores how individuals perceive change, strategies for leading change, and supporting change through a systems approach.

Courage and Trust in the C onversation

Kate Bunoza, MS

It is natural and very human to fear confrontation and even with the best intentions, sometimes the message can get lost in delivery and/or translation. Conflict Resolution and being comfortable with difficult conversations as a skill, however, is essential for stronger relationships and effective leadership; looking through the lens of Early Childhood Education, this begins with shared exploration with an open mind and results in better quality outcomes for children and families. This 2-hour in-person session will guide participants on how to build confidence and prepare for a conversation and resolution, and explore and practice research-based approaches within relation to the everyday interactions and goals specific to their role.
