Home Visiting Innovations Project

In partnership with the state of Maryland, New Jersey’s Department of Health and the NJ Department of Children & Family was awarded the MIECHV Innovations Award in 2017 with the goal to strengthen and improve family engagement in home visiting, in part through improved service coordination. The Early Childhood Leadership Institute (ECLI) led the training and coaching component of the research project, which included staff training on Goal Planning Strategies and coaching for supervisors as a means for building capacity around coaching skills to assist home visitors with positive goal planning experiences with families. ECLI facilitated Maryland’s two-day GPS training for home visitors from all three of New Jersey’s home visiting models. Following the GPS training, a two-day coaching training was created and facilitated for a randomized group of supervisors within the study, with ECLI staff providing five individual coaching sessions over a five month period as a workforce development strategy focused on continuous quality improvement.
